How do you protect incubation workflows from contamination and downtime?

Cell cultureLife science researchMicrobial bioprocess

Contamination remains a persistent risk in incubation workflows, with the potential to compromise experimental results, delay timelines, and require costly repeat work. Even brief exposure during routine handling or access can introduce unwanted particles that affect culture integrity and reproducibility. The Multitron Incubator Shaker with the integrated HEPA filtration system is designed to help laboratories maintain consistent air quality throughout incubation. By providing continuous air purification and measurable performance, INFORS HT supports reliable cultivation conditions that reduce the risk of contamination-related interruptions and help keep research on track.

HEPA filtration for uninterrupted contamination control

The Multitron HEPA filtration system continuously purifies air within the incubation chamber, capturing over 99.99 percent of airborne particles greater than 0.3 microns. After the incubator door is closed, ISO Class 4 air quality is restored within three minutes, allowing cultivation to continue without extended downtime or additional decontamination cycles. Because filtration remains active during operation, the system supports uninterrupted 24/7 culturing. This is especially beneficial in workflows that involve frequent access, open vessels, or longer cultivation periods, where maintaining stable incubation conditions throughout the process is critical.

Webinar

Understanding HEPA filtration and its role in contamination prevention

In a recorded webinar, Kulwant Kandra, Product Manager at INFORS HT, introduces the HEPA filtration system for the Multitron Incubator Shaker and explains how continuous air purification supports contamination control during active incubation.

She outlines the practical benefits of HEPA filtration, including uninterrupted 24/7 operation, rapid recovery of controlled air quality after door access, and improved protection during routine handling. The session also helps laboratories understand how continuous contamination control can be applied to everyday incubation workflows where consistency and reliability matter. The webinar provides a practical foundation for understanding how HEPA filtration performs under real laboratory conditions and introduces the application data used to evaluate its effectiveness.

Evaluating contamination control during active use

To assess performance under realistic laboratory conditions, INFORS HT collaborated with a university in Basel to evaluate contamination control during active cultivation. The study examined bacterial and mammalian cell growth in both open and closed cultivation setups, reflecting common handling and exposure scenarios found in laboratory workflows.

The resulting application data demonstrates effective contamination control during active use. Exposed media and internal surfaces remained protected during routine handling, highlighting the role of continuous air filtration in maintaining controlled incubation environments.

Built on proven shaker performance

For decades, INFORS HT has been a trusted partner for scientists who rely on precision, consistency, and long-term reliability. Multitron Incubator Shakers are engineered for continuous operation in real laboratory environments, supporting reproducible results across microbial and cell culture workflows. This legacy of performance informs INFORS HT’s approach to contamination control today: providing robust, flexible solutions that help laboratories maintain stable conditions and reduce the risk of unplanned interruptions.

Conclusion: Reducing contamination risk without disrupting your work

Reducing contamination risk is not only about protecting cultures. It is also about protecting time, data integrity, and workflow continuity. Continuous air purification can play an important role in maintaining consistent incubation conditions and minimizing avoidable disruptions.

The Multitron Incubator Shaker with HEPA filtration is designed to support reliable incubation through continuous operation, validated performance, and configurable contamination control options. By integrating contamination prevention directly into the incubation process, laboratories can focus on their work with greater confidence and fewer interruptions.
